I AM OUTRAGED!
Today I was out planting euonymous bushes along the front edge of our property. I was watering them in, walking around the yard, etc. And I turned around and saw THIS:
where I am used to seeing THIS:
I am so upset. My sister gave me this dragon for my birthday YEARS ago, I can’t even remember how long. It was probably in 1994 or 1995. And someone stole it out of my front yard last night. Probably while we were sleeping.
I have called the police and have printed out copies of pictures of him for them, when they come. We have a lot of petty vandalism around here, and this is pretty petty. I honestly don’t understand why anybody would steal a yard ornament.
I figure they must either really like it, and want it for their very own, or they must really hate it and feel it must be destroyed or removed from contaminating the public eye. Or they just felt like bugging someone. My faith in humanity has been sorely tested by this. I used to be able to say that I have never been ripped off, that I was always very lucky. Now, after 54 (almost) years, I can’t say that any more.
Either way, I don’t think the dragon is happy about the situation. He knows where he lives and he has a pretty darned good view maintained for him, too. I know that he appreciates the gardening I do for his benefit. Anyone who knows anything knows that you do not meddle in the affairs of or purposely offend dragons, for you are tasty and good with KETCHUP, if you know what I mean.
Anyway, I know a lot of my friends and clients read this blog, and so I ask you all to keep an eye out for this guy and if you see him, let me and the police know.
I’m so sad.
😦 I’m really sorry some thoughtless person did this to you. I don’t understand why people do such things. I think it may be because they don’t connect this sort of thing with hurting someone?… or maybe they do. Some people today really make me sick.
I hope you get your dragon back.
That seriously sucks. 😡
I’d be furious and sad too.
*hug*
I’d be more than happy to burn a few villages….
Thanks. I had a little fun with the policeman when he came to take the report of the theft. I pointed out to him that this was more like a kidnapping. Jim just said, “It’s about 9 years old or so. Can’t we issue an Amber Alert?”
How HORRIBLE! I certainly hope you get him back.
What a horrid thing to happen – I wonder if it ever occurs to the morons who do this kind of thing that there could be a very strong sentimental meaning to whatever they take. Personally I should definitely think twice before offending a dragon – whoever took it may get more than they bargain for!
Rowan, my sentiments EXACTLY. And ignorance of the nature of dragons is no excuse in their book.
Oh no! How horrible. I hope he finds his way back to you and bites his kidnappers in the process!
It reminds me of a wave of disappearance of garden gnomes in France from activists (I mean petty practical jokers) of the Garden Gnome Liberation Front. People would find hundred of ‘liberated’ gnomes gathered in a nearby woods shortly afterwards.
Maybe you should do an internet search for a garden dragon liberation manifesto.
We were reminded of the Garden Gnome Liberation Front by this occurrence also. I haven’t done a search for Dragon Liberation. The difference here is, the dragon in the picture is 32 inches long, 8 inches wide, about a foot tall, and sits on a concrete platform that is buried in the gravel of the garden. The platform was about 3 inches thick. The whole item weighed right around 100 pounds, and I needed help to move it around if I wanted to lift it up. It would be a pretty determined liberator who was moving this guy around. I’m thinking bored kids driving around late at night, and so are the police. Hopefully, it will turn up sometime. I have my network activated.
I did do a search for “garden dragon liberation” and got zero hits on google. This strikes me as amazing. How often do you get zero hits when you do a search?
oh – to lose one’s dragon, I personally cannot think of anything worse, being of the dragon kind myself. My dad lost a donkey once. We bought him another and seriously cemented that one into the ground then, later, dug it up and it is now seriously cemented in our front garden. Some things that don’t look it are priceless. I hope your dragon finds her way home soon!
Either petty theft, or someone who while having no ethics or morals did know a gorgeous dragon when they saw one. Must be someone who had seen it before and came back to nab it. Hopefully not any of your neighbors! My condolences.
That is horrid! We had a spate of gnome -napping here some years ago, but to kidnap a dragon is totally beyond belief.
I hope your network manages to find him for you.
Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear about this Dragon-napping incident. I hope he incinerates the culprits and wings his way back to you soon!
