I am so confused.
A while ago, I wrote a post about how I raise my vibe to participate in a blog game. That post was visited around 20 times right when I wrote it. Lately, it has been getting 20 to 30 hits a day, and I cannot figure out what is generating the interest. To top it off, the main search engine term that has been bringing people to my blog is “flowers”, and yet, when I search “flowers” on Google, Yahoo and Vivismo, I do not find my blog listed. Instead, I find numerous sites offering to sell you flowers, deliver flowers, etc.
To top it off, the people who are coming for “flowers” all seem to be visiting the post on how I raise my vibe, which does have a picture of balloon flowers on it, but isn’t really about flowers per se.
This is confusing me. I love having people visit, and apparently when they visit that post they stick around and read other posts, and come back other days. So it is pretty fun. But none of these visitors ever comment. The only comments I have been getting are from my regular visitors and blog friends.
A mystery. One that wouldn’t concern me particularly if it wasn’t for my addiction to my blog stats.
Meanwhile, we have gotten 2 inches of rain today, which I am grateful for since I got my winter garden (lettuces, mesclun, kale, spinach) planted a couple of days ago. I also have created a new flower bed out by the sauna dressing room, and the rain will help soften the ground under the cardboard and mulch layers. I still need to put in the rock edging around it, and the rain will make that easier too.
Not a lot to do around here while it is raining, though. Guess I’ll go check my blog stats again.
I’ve totally given up on blog stats. The other day I hit an all-time personal record of 425 hits in one day … and maybe there were half a dozen comments.
I also don’t get the ‘busiest posts’ thing at all – often very old posts get hit about 20 times and sometimes the same post gets hit lots of times several days in a row.
Frankly, it’s only fun for me when people leave comments. I don’t care if 5,000 people visit my blog every day without stopping by to say something – I’m not even sure why that would interest me.
Anyhow, just so you know, I’m one of those annoying people who visit your blog every day and maybe post once or twice a week.
I guess I’m starting to be like you in a way. I do like to look at the stats, though. I guess it is a throwback to those old days when I wanted to be popular, and having a lot of people looking at the blog makes me “feel” popular. Of course, if they click in and click out, what has happened? Not much.
I stop by your place pretty often too, but I don’t always comment either.
It’s just that if searching for “flowers” has brought them to my blog and I can’t even find my blog in the list of hits when I search the same term, I don’t understand where they are coming from. That is what is intriguing me right now, not so much why are they coming and not commenting, but how are they getting here in the first place?
I just started reading your blog and I have been enjoying it very much As my garden here in Minnesota begins to change and I prepare for the long winter months I find myself reading about other peoples gardens which has made it a little easier to say goodnight to mine until next spring, keep up the good writings, I’m enjoying thank you
I have also given up on trying to work out why people suddenly come visiting an old post. But I share your fascination with stats. I must remember to comment more, tho. Nodding and thinking how good a post is, without commenting, is like nodding at something good at a stage play or a concert.
Hi there!
Ah the mysteries of blog stats – yes I find that fascinating too!! I enjoy playing around with blog titles as that brings interesting searches in. I titled one post as a snagging inspector to describe the action of a blue tit in my camera nestbox – a number of snagging queries came in and only this week a real snagging inspector got back to me!! I have used a few funny titles. Did you know that the searches look through blog comments too. LOL – yes they do!
I apologise as this is the first time I have visited and you have visited and commented on my blog. I like to visit those who leave me comments but don’t always manage it at the time. I do like to return comments
I am visiting now as I wondered if you are perhaps a gardener that has ornamental grasses tucked away in planting schemes in your garden ?
If so would you, and any of your readers, like to join Layanee at Ledge and Gardens and myself at shirls gardenwatch with a post on ornamental grasses over the weekend – we thought it would be fun to see how many we had between us all
My post is up and Layanee’s will be up Sat/Sun. I have a long post – but I have been waiting for an excuse to ramble on about grasses for some time
No pressure – just leave one of us a comment if you do a post
Enjoy your weekend
I like reading the blog stats, too. I had one day last week where there were over 400 hits and I NEVER come close to that ever! I haven’t figured out why it was so high that day. I’m guessing it was a glitch in the system. LOL.
I find that when I post something about encouragement, positive thinking etc that post is way more popular than usual posts. I’m imagining all these miserable people typing “need encouragement” into google then stumbling across my site. Which is a shame considering I’m moaning about stuff half the time! I’m trying to be more considerate of my miserable mystery guests now.
Another one of posts seems to be popular because I’ve got photos of pine cones and trees. I wonder if someone needs them for a project? It’s interesting what people search for.
Well, I feel a little random and out-of-it posting on such an old post, but I am one of those people who will read blogs and post…maybe three times overall? The reason I haven’t been posting many thoughts on this blog is that I like to read all the old post, and, like I said, I feel somewhat stupid commenting on something that happened…what, four years ago?
Oh, I don’t know. A lot of the stuff that happens happens over and over. Commenting on something that was written about four years ago isn’t stupid at all. And sometimes it makes me go back and read something I wrote a long time ago and have not thought about much since.
A blog is like an ongoing conversation. There is one post I did on how to crack macadamia nuts that has off and on comments over all the years since I posted it.
