Well, I am really in mind of that Jimmy Buffett tune, “Changes in Latitudes” right now.
Changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes,
Nothing remains quite the same,
With all of our running and all of our cunning,
If we couldn’t laugh we would all go insane.”
As you all know, I have been changing latitudes lately, and the attitudes certainly follow right along. I am back from my journeys to Costa Rica, and as a teaser here are a few of the things I saw while I was there.
A tropical thunderstorm over Alajuela.
Hibiscus in the front yard.
Split-tailed hummingbird at La Paz Garden.
Red-eyed tree frog.
Catarata Magia Blanca.
Ocelot named “Tabitha.”
Banana flower
Tropical woodpecker (unidentified)
I came home stuffed with ripe mangos and papayas, which I am not allowed to import into the country. I was too busy cutting them up and eating them to actually photograph them, so you will just have to imagine the wonderful orange ripe goodness of them. I will divulge that every other morning I put on my sandals and wandered around the property where we were staying, which has over 100 citrus trees, and picked ripe windfallen oranges and tangerines and lemons off the ground, brought them home and juiced them. I told Jim this afternoon that if he couldn’t smell me exuding citrus scent then he must not be paying attention. I feel like I am walking about in an orange aura.
It was not lost to my attention that my homecoming occurred on the anniversary of the day Jim and I met, April Fool’s Day twenty-eight years ago. The sense of homecoming I experienced was an interesting circular connection to the way I felt the day we met. Today he did not leave. Our celebration seems to have fixed my sciatic problem and got my pelvis on straight. (Finally!)
We have now been together for one half of my lifetime.
So, this is what is going on in the garden right now, in a nutshell.
I think I am having mango withdrawal.
More tomorrow.
