Okay, so what we did since I posted earlier today was move all the rest of the dirt from the pile we created after the ice storm, completely cleaning that spot up. That dirt went on top of the dirt from the trench we dug yesterday. We also completed the rock edging around the bed. Jim went out to the appliance store and procured some more cardboard, and we sealed up the dirt pile. We moved flat rocks that will be used as stepping stones onto the pile to hold the cardboard in place until we get the mulch moved.
Here it is, the new bed: All ready for mulch!
Both Jim and I are sort of hobbling around the house, groaning every time we get up and move around. You don’t suppose we overdid, do you?
Anyway, we’ll definitely be ready when the pawpaws come.
Oh, plus my new mantra (People are paying Ed for his work.) has worked and our tenant paid his January rent today and has enough work to be pretty sure he’ll be caught up on his rent by March. So I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to afford the blueberries we want to put in this year.
Things are looking up.
I’m so glad things are looking up! Blueberries will be wonderful, and well deserved… and may I say that I’m terribly impressed by the WORK you’ve been putting in?!
I’m tired and I only read what you’ve done! It looks marvelous! And you are going to have such a lovely spot when everything it in and growing!
Our crocus are blooming and daffys are up with buds (not bloomed yet)….some I put in last year and forgot are coming up behind the hostas (hope they come back. We never know – we have to much underground wildlife 0 I have these in pots but you just never know). And I never got around to raking the whole yard this year. I made stabs at the back (which I see all the time) but the front I simply forgot. Much work to be done! Wanna come and make my yard pretty?!
Bloglily, sometimes I don’t even believe the amount of work we took on when we decided to pursue this project. I promise that every bit of it except some of the rock gathering was done by Jim and me. Don’t forget, we accomplished this during my off hours from massage. The last two days were my “days off” — using the term loosely.
Tammy, isn’t it wonderful how daffodils return? I love mine. I think that is why I have been obsessively collecting them. They have the virtue that they exude a noxious set of chemicals from the bulbs and roots that make them very inedible to all the underground wildlife. Talk about chemical warfare! As for the rest, not raking just means you let a natural mulch form. Sure, I’ll come make your yard pretty. For a price! I’m starting to understand why landscape people charge so much. I’m pretty sore right now, even after a nice soak before dinner. Leftover reheated lasagne. Appropriate for the lasagne gardeners.
