As soon as I read the post on Gardening Gone Wild announcing this month’s subject for the “Picture This” Photo Contest, I thought of a particularly favorite shot I acquired right after a gentle spring shower we had this spring. The red bud was in full bloom and the droplets clinging to it refracted the view of our house and garden in the background. Miraculously, there was enough light to prevent camera shake or the errant breeze from blurring the magic on a few images.
But then I remembered a shot of one of our apple trees when it was in full bloom and a honey bee was busy collecting nectar and pollinating. That image brings back to me the intoxicating scent of the apple blossoms that surrounded me as I found myself in paparazzi mode, pursuing the rather annoyed bee.
Oh, what a dilemma! O, Cruel Taskmaster, who demands one and ONLY one shot for this contest! However, if I was the one tasked with judging, I wouldn’t want to have to compare hundreds of pictures when I can cut the number down to a rational quantity simply by being strict with the contestants.
I hope you understand just exactly how difficult this was, this discipline of a Gemini mind!
However, hard as it has been, after due consideration I decided to go with the advice given to SAT takers. If you don’t know, go with your gut, your first intuitive instinct. And so I present to you my first thought, a common redbud, Cercis canadensis, enjoying an April rain in my side yard.
What a joy to have the opportunity to share this moment with you all, knowing that it will reach a larger audience because I happened across Gardening Gone Wild a year or so ago and started sharing with that gardening community.
Blessed be!
what a beautiful image
Gorgeous, just gorgeous. As always.
Good luck with the contest, for this is an exquisite shot. I love Gardening Gone Wild and the way they bring us together. Your redbud shot with that magical reflection was an excellent choice.

One of the other things I like about this image is that in the background you can make out the outline of the redbud in the main garden bed, all full of bloom.
Quenches my thirst!
That is something I’d like to see in real life, Healing Magic Hands! It’s like Essence of Spring…and you have “bottled” it ;-]

The more I look at this image the more I like it. YOu have the spring flowers dressed in water, catching the image of the scene in the droplets and in the background, blurred, the same garden with the swathes of yellow from the daffodils.
I’m glad you all like it.
What a lovely photo!
