Smokey died today. He has been with us for 1/3 of our lives, so the parting was bittersweet. He died as he lived, dignified and in control until the end. We will miss him terribly.

My sympathies to you. It’s very hard to lose a companion animal, especially one that’s been with you so long.
Very hard. We always know we will outlive them, though we try to pretend they will live forever.
Ellie & Jim
I’m so sorry on the loss in your family.
Hugs
Lexi
Thanks, Lexi. Good to hear from you.
Oh Smokey! What a beautiful cat and what a wonderful love-filled life he had.
Hugs to you and Jim…
He was very loved. And quite special, as all cats are, really. Thanks for your thoughts and I surely needed a hug.
Hugs from me too Ellie xx
Oh Ellie,
My sympathy to you and Jim. Smokey had a wonderful life and a long one. I am not filled with sadness, but with joy that he was with the ones who loved him when the time came.
Rest in Peace Smokey.
He is at peace. Thank you dear friend. He died peacefully and not alone.
Oh sweetheart. What a master of catliness was there. I was beginning to believe I’d be reading about Smokey for a long time to come, he seemed so determined to keep coming back.
I’ll say the family Cat Prayer for him tonight. He is already chasing star-mice, I suspect.
Patrolling with Mike, for sure. He was an extremely stubborn boy, determined to perform the proper routines of his life to the very end. Quite amazing, actually. But old age and the cancer won in the end. They usually do.
My thoughts are with you at this sad time. I’m sure you will have many happy, fond memories of such a delightful family pet.
May Smokey look down from pets heaven and be with you in spirit.
The pictures are delightful.
God Bless
Mary
We are trying to focus on the beauty and the funny and the positive. After 18 years, there are a LOT of memories. Thank you for your thoughts.
So Sorry to hear about Smokey. It’s so hard losing a fur kid. He sure was a beautiful kitty.
It’s hard indeed. Thank you for your kind thoughts.
Oh no…I am so sorry to hear this, HMH! This is devastating. My thoughts are with you guys…
Even though it was not unexpected, it is very hard nonetheless.. He was quite old and had cancer too. He was beautiful, and dignified, and knew he was the head of the place.
Such a big loss for you. I’m so sorry.
It’s been hard. Thank you.
Oh no, I really feel for you both. Big hug from me. And I’ll be sending good thoughts out to the universe for Smokey, to help him find his way to Mike in Feline Valhalla.
I’m sure that Mike was waiting right there for his buddy. I have seen him in the area several times.
Thanks for the thoughts.
Sorry to hear the news. They always leave a void when they leave. But it is good that he kept his dignity. Or at least it seems important for most cats. Sending hugs from IN.
Thank you. We need hugs. There is a very large void. Even Ruby misses him.
Very sorry to hear this. He looks like a wonderful cat, and it’s good that he lived so long. Obviously he was loved.
He was loved. And served as was his proper station as Boss Cat and King of the Havens.
Sorry to hear this.
Ah, thanks. It’s the bad thing about having pets. We almost always outlive them.
Good bye Smokey. Say hello to my Caesar for me :)…sending much love.
