Today’s Photohunt theme is “Black.”
This is a close-up portrait of Mike. I spent quite a while annoying him one afternoon in an attempt to capture the eyelashes of this eye that were white. The fact is, about five eyelash hairs on his right eye were white because that was where a feral tom slashed him one night when they were involved in a Donnybrook in the carport. That is also why one whisker is white on that side. Several years later, he got in another fight which resulted in another matching white whisker on the other side of his face.
I miss him.

Beautiful cat. Are you saying that stress makes cat’s eyelashes turn white?
I think that when he got slashed and the scar tissue healed back up the cells that produced those particular hairs no longer could manufacture pigment and they came in white. He had a peculiar pattern of growth in his fur where in spots where he had been bitten or scratched started coming in with white guard hairs rather than black. It was a very subtle effect that never really came out that well in photography.
