So every year or so I feel the need to replace my walking shoes.   For some reason, they just don’t last forever.   While I do put a lot of miles on my shoes, the not lasting forever thing may have something to do with the fact that I rarely  ever “just” walk in my shoes.

This particular pair has been used as foot wear suitable for wading in a stream while catching tadpoles.   They have been on my feet in the rain, the snow, the heat.   I usually don’t remember to go put on my working boots before I start shoveling gravel or digging weeds out of a garden bed, either.

The ordinary cross trainer was not meant for shovel work, not really.   Mine, however, do seem to stand up to it fairly well.

I really liked the last model of New Balance I had purchased, and I shopped hoping that the company had not done their usual thing and “upgraded” it while I was wearing mine out.   When I got to the shoe store, I did not see any shoes that I recognized as similar to the ones I had on my feet.   But after a while I turned my foot over and read the model number off the side.   Let me tell you, that was about the only thing left on the shoe that was legible.  When the lady asked me what size I wanted, the tag inside that tells you that information was rubbed completely blank.

Anyway, to make a long story short, they did have the same shoes, and if you look at the picture above you can see why I might not have recognized them on the wall where they were gleaming at me in oh so pristine splendor.

I’m sure it won’t be long before I am able to transform these shiny new beauties into something that is more familiar to me….
